By using turbocharging and direct injection, the Platinum powertrain generates 365 horsepower plus 380 lb.-ft. of torque. The ST combines this muscular engine with Ford Performance engine tuning for a powertrain like nothing before it. With 400 hp plus 415 lb.-ft. of toque and top speed of 143 mph, the 2021 ST really brings the power.
Rear-Wheel Drive
The 2021 Explorer comes equipped with RWD to maximize performance and design. Rear-wheel drive architecture enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on- and off-road capability and 600 pounds more in maximum towing capacity when equipped with the Class III Trailer Tow Package.
Explorer Limited Hybrid
The Explorer Limited Hybrid is the only Hybrid in its class that can tow 5,000 pounds* and it's also fully off-road capable. The rear-wheel-drive model also offers more miles traveled between fill-ups with the 3.3L Hybrid Engine.
10-Speed Transmission
The 10-speed transmission makes transitioning between speeds a more efficient process, ensuring smooth upshifts and downshifts. Compared with a 6-speed, the 10-speed delivers improved overall performance, with enhanced acceleration at the low and mid ranges of the power band.
